Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening brightens your smile using custom trays and safe bleaching gel. A simple, non-invasive treatment to enhance the natural color of your teeth.

Tooth whitening (also called bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment that changes the color of your natural tooth enamel. It's one of the most popular ways to enhance the beauty of your smile.

Because whiter teeth have become a major aesthetic concern for many of our patients, we offer professional home whitening systems that can dramatically brighten your smile. Since tooth whitening only works on natural enamel, we'll evaluate any old fillings, crowns, or other restorations before you begin. If replacements are needed, we'll complete them after bleaching so they match your newly whitened teeth.

What to Expect

Tooth whitening typically requires two visits to our West New York office.

First visit: We'll take impressions (molds) of your teeth to create custom, clear plastic trays that fit comfortably over your teeth.

Second visit: You'll try on your trays, and we'll make any adjustments needed for a perfect fit. We'll send you home with your custom trays and professional-strength whitening gel.

You'll wear the trays with the whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks, depending on how stained your teeth are and how bright you'd like them to be.

It's normal to experience some tooth sensitivity while you're whitening, but it will go away shortly after you finish treatment.

How Long Does It Last?

Tooth whitening is not permanent. You may need a touch-up every few years—more often if you smoke or regularly drink coffee, tea, or wine. The good news is that once you have your custom trays, touch-ups are easy and affordable.

We'll give you care instructions for your teeth and trays and encourage you to visit us regularly to help maintain your beautiful, healthy, white smile.

Common questions
Will my teeth be sensitive during whitening?+

It's normal to experience some tooth sensitivity while whitening, but it's temporary and will go away shortly after you stop treatment. If sensitivity becomes uncomfortable, you can take a break for a day or two.

What causes teeth to become stained or yellow?+

Teeth can become discolored for many reasons: normal wear of the outer enamel layer, fluorosis (excessive fluoride during tooth development), staining from medications like tetracycline, and everyday foods and drinks like coffee, tea, and wine.

Will whitening work on my crowns or fillings?+

No, whitening only works on natural tooth enamel. If you have visible crowns, fillings, or other restorations, we'll evaluate them before you start. After whitening, we can replace any restorations so they match your brighter smile.
